Affiliate Disclosure

Updated on October 7, 2026

HollowCamp is an editorial publication. We do not sell anything ourselves. We write about gear, selection criteria and practical know-how — and we fund that work through affiliate programmes.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

How it works

Some links on this website are affiliate links. You can recognise them by the fact that they lead to a page labelled "Continue to …" and forward you to a retailer when clicked.

If you buy something through such a link, we receive a commission from the retailer. The price you pay is identical to the price you would pay by visiting the shop directly. There is no extra cost to you.

What this does not mean

It does not mean we are paid for recommendations. We receive no payments for positive mentions, and no retailer can influence the content of our articles. The selection criteria in our texts — such as hydrostatic head, R-value or comfort temperature — are technical criteria, not advertising claims.

It does not mean we present products we know nothing about. Where we make judgements about criteria, they rest on publicly available technical standards (such as ISO 23537-1 for sleeping bags or EN 417 for gas cartridges). Where we cannot assess something, we say so.

Why we disclose this

Transparency is not a courtesy — it is a precondition for us. Anyone reading an article without being able to tell that a link earns money will rightly be suspicious — and with good reason: in the United States the Federal Trade Commission requires clear disclosure of material connections (16 CFR Part 255), and in the EU the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive requires the same.

That is why every article containing affiliate links carries a notice at the top of the text. And that is why the page a link leads to states in plain words where it goes and that we receive a commission.

The technical route of a click

We do not forward links secretly. Anyone who clicks such a link first lands on a page of this website that says: "You are leaving HollowCamp" — including the name of the shop it goes to. Only a second, deliberate click leads to the retailer. That way it is always clear where you are and what happens next.
